Background: Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is one of the most common causes of disability globally. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) plays a pivotal role in identifying the underlying pathological causes.
Aim: To evaluate MRI findings in patients with chronic low back pain and to determine the most common etiological factors.
Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional observational study conducted over 12 months in the Department of Radiology on patients with low back pain persisting for more than 12 weeks. MRI lumbar spine was performed and analysed.
Results: Disc degeneration (62%), disc bulge/prolapse (48%), facet joint arthropathy (32%), lumbar canal stenosis (26%), spondylolisthesis (14%), and Modic changes (18%) were the most common MRI findings.
Conclusion: MRI is highly effective in detecting causes of CLBP. Early MRI evaluation helps in proper diagnosis and management and prevents chronic disability.
