Background: Diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) are one of the most severe and costly complications of diabetes mellitus, leading to morbidity, amputation, and decreased quality of life. Healing of DFUs depends on multiple systemic and local factors.
Aim: To evaluate various clinical, biochemical, and management-related factors affecting the healing of diabetic foot ulcers.
Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted on 100 patients with DFUs. Factors studied included glycemic control, infection status, vascular supply, ulcer grade, nutrition, comorbidities, and treatment modalities.
Results: Poor glycemic control (HbA1c >8%), presence of infection, peripheral arterial disease, higher ulcer grade (Wagner grade ≥3), low albumin levels, and smoking were significantly associated with delayed healing.
Conclusion: Multi-factorial evaluation and early intervention are essential for better ulcer healing outcomes.
