Background: Fungal infections are a common yet often neglected public health problem, especially in rural communities with limited healthcare access. Environmental factors, poor hygiene, agricultural occupation, and lack of awareness contribute to their prevalence.
Aim: To determine the prevalence and types of fungal infections in the rural population and analyze associated risk factors.
Materials & Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted in rural areas of ______ district over 12 months. Individuals presenting with symptoms suggestive of fungal infection were clinically examined and laboratory investigations (KOH mount, fungal culture) were performed. Demographic data, hygiene practices, occupation, and presence of comorbidities were recorded.
Results: Among ___ patients screened, % had confirmed fungal infections. **Dermatophytosis was the most common (_%)**, followed by candidiasis and onychomycosis. Significant associations were observed between infection and agricultural occupation, diabetes mellitus, prolonged antibiotic use, and poor personal hygiene.
Conclusion: Fungal infections are highly prevalent in rural populations, highlighting the need for awareness programs, early diagnosis, hygiene promotion, and screening of high-risk groups.
