Background: Varicose veins are dilated, tortuous veins commonly affecting the lower limbs. They are prevalent among adults and may cause pain, discomfort, edema, ulceration, and reduced quality of life.
Aim: To identify and analyze the major risk factors associated with varicose vein disease in adult patients.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 150 patients diagnosed with varicose veins. Data were collected on demographic profile, occupation, family history, BMI, lifestyle factors, and clinical presentation. Duplex ultrasonography was used to confirm diagnosis.
Results: Varicose veins were more common in individuals aged 30–50 years (60%), with male predominance (55%). Prolonged standing occupation (48%), obesity (35%), family history (30%), pregnancy (25% in females), and smoking (22%) were major risk factors. Pain (85%), leg heaviness (70%), and swelling (55%) were common symptoms.
Conclusion: Prolonged standing, obesity, smoking, and family history are significant predictors of varicose vein disease. Awareness and preventive lifestyle modifications are necessary.
